4. ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
The YMCA in the Czech Republic, Young Men’s Christian Association, is a non-governmental and non-profit youth organization which wants to contribute to the positive building of civil society. Anybody can participate in YMCA programs, regardless of their age, religion, race, gender or social or political background. Through Christian values, the YMCA desires to develop all sides of the human personality: body, mind and spirit. Our organization works through the local associations of YMCA throughout the Czech Republic. Currently, there are 26 local associations in the Czech Republic. They organize activities for children, youth and families. The most common activities include camps, youth clubs, sports, art and music clubs, theatre, scouting, information centres, mother and child centres, trainings, etc. We are members of the European Alliance of YMCAs (YMCA Europe) and the World Alliance of YMCAs. The YMCA is the oldest, the largest and the most widespread youth work organization in the world.
5. AIMS DESCRIPTION:
In concordance with its mission, the YMCA aims to create fellowships that stimulate its members to be active, as well as to share experiences together and to support each other. Fellowships within the YMCA are places where anyone can feel acceptance and where everyone can find their place. The YMCA activities and programs aim to:
• Offer unity in diversity.
• Offer the possibility of self-fulfilment.
• Lead youth (and those young at heart) to harmonically develop their mind, body and spirit (the YMCA triangle), and to realize that they also exist in the world, that they are not isolated.
6. ACTIVITIES DESCRIPTION:
All activities and programs of the YMCA must be conceived to develop all aspects of the YMCA triangle: mind, body, spirit, and world. Activities and programs are offered in the following categories: education, music, arts and crafts, sports and physical activities, family programs, clubs, outdoor activities and scouting, social services. 7. EXPERIENCES IN EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK:
We have participated in the European Voluntary Service since 2001.
